First post

Hello everyone this is my first attempt on a blog.

This blog will be about my artistic process. I am an abstract process painter my subjects range from figurative abstractions to abstractions purely about manipulating paint. I have a website that I have been updating over time, the address is www.catherineapalmer.com if you would like to check it out.

Painting to me is a very enjoyable process. The process to create whatever subject that come to mind at the moment the paint brush, palette knife or scraper hits the canvas, panel or board.

Generally I have a very loose concept at the starting point for beginning a painting. I work my paintings in multiple layers in an editing manner until I hit a feeling of resolve or I feel the painting is finished.

Texture is a very big part of my painting style. I build up many layers with thicker impasto applications and then glazes over areas to bring depth. I may have up to a hundred layers to one painting.

One of the things I strive to achieve is the allusion of recessive depth along with a rhythmic pattern of shapes. In doing this I try to achieve balance and harmony. Painting to me is more like a dance, a dance with oneself and the materials in hand.
