Art out in the World

I was delighted to be selected to show at Artwork's Eagan with this lovely piece I made for my ACW PUPP piece that I had over at the Sociable Cider Werk's in August and September.
The work out at Artworks is beautiful. If you want to check out the show it will be up until January 21st 2022.

What's New October 2021

What's New

Oil Painting is what is new!! I am hosting Oil Painting Classes at the Solar Arts Building Studio # 205 Monday and Wednesday Nights. I had been give a lot of oil paint over the years as artists either gave it up, or they didn't want to haul it across the country. Well I also had a pretty good collection started myself.. Any Who, practice make perfect..

In The Studio

Currently in the class we are working on Seascapes, and it is a bit of a challenge.

Here are a few painting that i have been working on. I feel good about my skies, but my ocean waves are still needing a bit of work. Practice makes, well you know the line.

\

I also have been doing a lot of work in my drawing books daily. I often have slow times at the daily grind. so I have been taking advantage of the time.

We started up the On Location Drawing Co-op group again with support from Art To Change the World.  Here watercolor I did at the Lyndale Rose Garden last weekend.

Bodies as a Means to Abstraction 4

Bodies as a Means to Abstraction

I have been slowly figuring out my compositions. I have been working with collage and making sketches in my drawing book.

I am using the drawing and collages as a meditation, hopefully capture and convey what I have been experiencing over the last year, and maybe even the last 5 years or so.

The idea that I am trying to address in this work is the concept of personhood. Under that umbrella idea there is a whole slue of things that play into our experience as a PERSON(citizen's) of our great country (USA), that keeps "us" the citizen's fragmented from each other.

The list is long, but here are a few; gender ideal, idealized beauty, transphobia, homophobia, racism, stereotypes, objectification, classism and cultural appropriation.

Since I started composing this blog post another unarmed black man  was shot and killed in uptown MPLS, WINSTON SMITH " Say His Name".  As well as, a protester was run down by a crazed racist drug addict maniac.

A Gay male was ran down by his homophonic neighbor.

A mass grave of 215 Native children were found at an Indian school in Canada.

Juneteenth is now a National Holiday, Great I love it!

Now stop killing unarmed black folks!

The last couple of years have been very strange.
We now are dealing with yet another wave of
Covid-19. The Delta variant, I cant keep up with all this.

Pears

Pears

Sometimes I just get on a role of sketching and painting things, plants and in this case fruit.
I love drawing and painting pears at the moment. I find it fun and relaxing.
A watercolor, a sketch, an acrylic painting it is very fun to explore different mediums, especially if you haven't used them in a while.

Bodies as a Means to Abstraction 3

Happy Thursday Everyone

This week I have finished collaging my drawings onto my template and am starting to think of ways to work out the individual pieces.

I have been sketching ups of different parts of the composition. Playing around with different backgrounds ideas. Thinking of what the over all color scheme will be.

I am also pondering, what is the message I am attempting to convey.

Here are a few drawings I have done thus far.

I am going to keep working with collage on my templates. Hoping that this exercise will enrich the color choices and make the overall work stronger.

It gives me some wiggle room to solve the puzzle and resolve the composition before committing the compositions to the painting supports.

Working in this way allows me freedom to do as much editing as I want on the templates, keeping the painting supports clean and ready for when I start painting.

This picture is a sketch up from a commission I did the summer of 2020 based on my Dance Party Series.

Until next week....

Sunday Night

I started going through my drawings and began to cut out my figures. I made a life size map out of brown craft paper. Sundays process was a bit slow, but I am always a bit clunky when i am flushing out new ideas.

Achieving the zone in a cluttered mind.

Wednesday Night

I finished the map template outlines and have started to add words and figures. Random thoughts come to mind, as I listen to music and chat back and forth with Kim. I jot down things that strike me onto the brown paper map.

Side Note: We are in a constant state of reorganization at the moment.

Kim is going through and organizing stuff from The Uptown House, The Pink House, The Comi Casa.

Reminiscing and being introduced to different bits and bobs from the past. A box of beautiful vintage ties with wonderful patterns, a top hat as black as black can be. There are beads from the 70's 80's 90's and before. And you can't forget the baby Jesus, the blonde blue eyed baby  Jesus

Another Side Note: I am currently in the process of inventorying my previous works. What a time consuming process. Getting ready to make my NEMAA store. I am in the shuffle zone. Much like the twilight zone. Memories abound.

Once I get further along with all this, I will give you all the heads up.
I will be smiley and organized. Ha right! Then I will make a mess, it 's the nature of my process.

Masks
Desk Shots

I put up a curtain to cover my work in process. I am hoping in doing so, I stay focused on all the different things I have on my plate at the moment. I don't want my clutter not to escape as I am easily distracted.  Time allotted is precious, Focus Focus Focus.  .

My new work is in the all unknown place, the Katie figures out what is up stage. The don't get attached faze. The focus, distracted, super focus time.

Feed back to soon could sway the direction of the painting.
The beginning point of the process, where process matters most, but I am not sure what the complete process is yet.

Boneless chicken farming, getting into the zone.

Couple more paintings from the past

Have a nice day
